“Use what you have.”
How many of you are guilty of going out to buy something new when there is an event coming up? I used to do that ALL THE TIME, and can still fall into those old patterns if I’m not being vigilant and super careful. Rather than looking in my closet to wear what I already owned I thought I needed to go buy something new every time there was some place to be. It’s also so easy to go get take-out instead of eating the stuff that’s already in the cupboards… especially when I’m hungry.
Morale of the story: eat before you get too hungry, and stay out of the stores (and offline) because you probably, most likely already have what you need… :)

Love this! I agree! Someone recently asked me how I shop as a momma. I said, “I don’t!” I really honestly have spent so so much less on myself since having a baby. I still have spent, and do shop, but far less, and far less expensive places. I buy more for necessity I have noticed. This idea recently came up though, as there are some semi-formal parties coming, and I am preggo. I will dig around and see what I can wear! Thanks Anna as always for the reminders!
what a simple and great reminder! I’ve been following your blog for a few months now and just love it. I did the minimalist challenge in the late spring and it has me looking at every new purchase so differently. Anyway – thanks for sharing here in this space!
Agreed!! We’re moving next week, and I’ve been trying to use up everything in our fridge/freezer/pantry, and holy moley! I have 0 need to grocery shop! Sometimes you don’t realize how much STUFF you have, until you start really trying to use it!

I used to buy clothes before every time that I have to attend an event. But now, I check first my closet if I have something to wear before buying new.
This is why I spent time today reorganizing a bin I knew had office and old school supplies from when I had went to school four years ago. I didn’t want to spend money on things I may have had under my bed this entire time. Turns out, I didn’t actually have what I thought I did but that’s okay. At least I now know I need it and won’t be wasting money!
Such a simple and yet helpful idea. Agree on the moving thing, when I was trying to eat everything in my kitchen prior to moving, I realized I had SO much food and that I went grocery shopping every Sunday because it was habit, not necessarily because I needed more food.
