That Man Is Richest Whose Pleasures Are Cheapest

That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest

“That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest.”

During my spending diet, I learned to take pleasure in small things. A good cup of homemade coffee, free hikes at a local park and reading on a rainy day. It’s cliche, but the best things in life are free.

I like borrowing books from the library, and walking my dog (true, pets cost money – but she is a foster so her costs are all covered by the rescue!), and playing board games with my honey!

I love (again, LOVE) working out to dance fitness routines on Youtube that are choreographed for my favorite songs. I can’t dance. So I also love laughing at myself when I see myself in the sliding door of my living room looking like a doofus while I’m at it.

At home movie nights with stove popped popcorn with my Mister & our kiddos is one of my favorites! Also piping hot tea curled up on the couch with a good book :)

Some of my favorite free things are: walking my dogs, cleaning/de-cluttering/re-arranging the things in my apartment (this feels SOO satisfying!), checking my budget to be sure I’m on track (not so fun, but necessary), using the free pool in my complex, getting friends together to hang out at one of their free pools, using Pinterest to find new recipes for food I already have in my fridge, using Pinterest for decorating ideas (also using already-owned items), laying out my yoga mat and doing some stretches while drinking tea and watching TV.

I love going to the library and checking out free books. Also enjoy staying home on weekends catching up on my movies and drinking hot Chai latte that I make

We love to hang out on our patio in the summer! My husband purchased a water mister (sprays lightly) and it feels like we’re at a nice hotel! He also added beautiful flowers all around and it’s like a private oasis! No traffic to deal with or lines at the shore! We did this initially because we both went through job changes and as a way to cut back but now – – we love it!

It’s so true! I thought I would be sad during this spending fast to not take part on many pleasures of life but it is the reverse. I am overjoyed to have discovered the beauty and bounty of the ordinal pleasures!

Making my coffee at home, going for runs with my boyfriend in the evening, working out FOR FREE in my living room (thank you Youtube!), prepping our meals in advance so we make the most of our money, and watching Netflix rather than going out to a movie.

Yes, yes, yes! Hobbies can get SO expensive, but in my opinion, if you can enjoy the simple pleasures, your life will feel a lot more full! Mine are books and bubble baths…often at the same time!
