We, my dear husband and I, have recently embarked on a little budgeting experiment (oh what fun!). We decided that first, we were spending waaaaaaay too much money on our credit cards; second, we needed to start saving more of our income; and third, the way we were going to do this was by withdrawing cash every month and allocating it to certain expenses. Things, surprisingly, are working out pretty smoothly with our little cash-only method, but I must complain that my “House Items” budget of $25.00 a month evaporates by day 3 of the month. I mean, I feel like this little abode of mine is really getting the shaft when it comes to financial priorities. That simply will not do! So I put on my big-girl DIY panties and went to brainstorming cheap, no FREE! ways to liven up our casa. And this little left-over coke bottle vase was my favorite idea so far. It was free and I am in love!
How to Make Your Own Soda Pop Bottle Vase…
Supplies
– A few empty glass pop bottles – I washed mine in the dishwasher beforehand
– Some twine, string, or yarn. You pick!
– Wild flowers – I picked a few from my mom’s yard
Steps
First, tie your three pop bottles together with your twine. I tied them pretty tight with a double knot because I don’t like to mess around when it comes to DIY ;)
Second, wrap that twine around your bottles 20 times or so. My preference was for the twine to wrap neatly around the bottles but it might also be really cute to wrap the twine around the bottles in a messy way by overlapping it. Go ahead and get crazy with your twine…I give you permission. When you are done wrapping (not rapping, unless you feel like dropping a beat) that twine then simply tie it off by tucking the end of your twine under a wrapped piece of twine and cut off the excess.
Third, fill those suckers with some wild daisies!
Wasn’t that easy? I think yes! And three cheers for free interior decor! Alright I will calm down now.
What tricks or crafts have you come up with on a budget of $0.00? I’d love to hear about them!
This post is by Alix Adams. Alix is a glitter user and ice cream enthusiast. She blogs at A Ruffled Life when she’s not kissing her baby’s fat rolls or covering antlers in glitter.
A Strathisla or however you spell it whisky bottle will make a stunning single stem vase. I just gotta figure out how to remove the super-super glue that’s left from the label (I like to tear the labels off).
Pieliekamais!
To remove any glue residue on a bottle use Goo Gone (http://googone.com/). Works every time!
Oh, thank you Alix! The thing is, I don’t think we have Goo Gone in Sweden plus I try to use “elbow grease” for most of my cleaning :). I was going to google some genious tips with maybe vinegar or putting the bottle in the freezer for a while. What I’ve tried so far is dishwashing liquid and steel wool, not super successful.
But thank you, I was really happily surprised to find a reply :)
You bet! I think you may be able to buy Goo Gone online if none of those other tricks work! Good luck!
