The Perfect Party Favor for Pennies

Create party favors for pennies

Just because you live on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t party like a rock star. Well, at least your party favors will scream fabulous while your wallet will pat you on the back(side). With a few tips, creativity, and a pinch of glitter you can create posh party favors for literally pennies. I’ll teach you the party favor basics and how to create these little goodie bags for $0.57 a piece (gasp!). So buckle your seat belts because it’s about to get crafty!

Tip 1: Sometimes the best way to wow guests with a gift is by taking something ordinary, like a mini brown lunch sack, and transforming it to something unexpected. For this first little party favor, painter’s tape and craft paint make out hard-core.

Supplies

Mini Lunch bags: $2.00 for 12 or $0.17 each bag

Paint: $0.97 for a bottle or $0.04 each bag

Painter’s tape: $2.00 for a roll or $0.08 each bag

Yarn: $2.5o for roll or $0.10 each bag (used for bag accessories)

Paper: $0.50 for one piece or $0.02 each bag (used for bag accessories)

Glue: $2.50 for container or $0.10 each bag (used for bag accessories)

Glitter: $1.50 for container or $0.06 each bag (used for bag accessories)

Total cost per bag: $0.57!

How to Make the Perfect Party Favor for Pennies…

First, using your painter’s tape, create a design on your lunch sacks. The best part about painter’s tape is that it gives you clean lines and doesn’t permanently stick to anything-even paper bags. Confession: I am kinda addicted to painters tape. For your design, think simple and in theme. You don’t need to create a masterpiece silhouette with tape because simple shapes will get the job done dandy.

Step two…pick the paint. I have been on an orange kick lately and thought the contrast of the bright orange paint and brown paper bag was dynamite, but I have no prejudice against mixing neutrals or other colors. Now paint within the taped off sections of your design, and don’t hesitate to paint over onto the tape. This will give your design a clean line.

The third step (and the funnest really) is to peel off the painter’s tape. After the paint has dried, of course. Remember how I said painter’s tape doesn’t stick? Well, that’s totally true (as long as you don’t rip it off fast). Take it slow when peeling to reveal your clean beautiful design.

Tip 2: When thinking party favor (for less), think personalize. The best way to take an inexpensive brown paper sack from shabby to chic is through adding a personal touch. A stenciled letter on each bag and some twine are affordable ways to liven up a favor and they add a great deal of sincerity to an event. Um…and add glitter. Lots and lots of glitter.

Total cost per bag: $0.55!

Steps

For step 1, trace letters on each bag. This could be the first letter of the name of the guest of honor (like the birthday guest) or the first letter of each guest’s name. P.S. stencil kits often come with other great shapes so you could use stencils to trace shapes on the bags too. Double fist pump!

Second, using the end of a paintbrush (who knew?) dip it into glue and fill in the stenciled letter with glue. Glitter is a very forgiving medium so your glue trace lines do not have to be perfect (phew).

Third, dump and aggressive amount of glitter over the glue letter. Let your glitter-freak-flag fly! And remember to do all glittering over a piece of paper so you can easily dump excess glitter off your bag and then into the glitter container.

Almost finished!

Tip 3: Every party outfit needs the perfect accessories. The same goes for party favors. I dressed up my favors with some twine, yarn pom balls, and glitter-dipped paper feathers!

To attach accessories, hole punching and twine are lifesavers. First, fold the top of your lunch sack and punch two holes through the folded area. I strung twine around the feather and through the yarn pom to create a perfect little package for my guests. Inside each bag is some mini chocolate-chip cookies. Baked good, especially homemade, are a very affordable gift and who couldn’t use more cookies?

Woah, those are adorable. It looks like a little fox sitting on each bag, love it! (I will definitely be stealing this idea for the next craft session)
