Command Our Wealth

Command our wealth

“If we command our wealth, we shall be rich and free. If our wealth commands us, we are poor indeed.” -Edmund Burke

I used to rarely check my bank account. The number was always lower than I wanted it to be and I wanted to avoid the pain of disappointment. But by not knowing how much money was coming in or going out, I let my wealth (or lack of) command me.

I recently put a reminder on my phone to check my account a few times a week. It’s helped me be much more in control of my wealth and it’s cut down on my anxiety.

I rarely check ‘my money’, as it reminds me of counting your gold coins and we never had a budget yet we managed to obtain FI. What we did was live simply, save, sale shop and buy less than we could afford.

Debt. the $4 cup of mocha java, the $30 nail job, lunch out are the enemies of a stress reduced FI lifestyle. Discipline over time is the tool to get there.
