A Tough Lesson

A Tough Lesson

“Patience is a virtue, and I’m learning patience. It’s a tough lesson.” -Elon Musk

Patience can be the toughest lesson. We want to get out of debt RIGHT NOW! And we want to save money RIGHT NOW! But there’s value in working and waiting for our patience to pay off. It’s a tough lesson, but we can be patient. Good things come with time.

I’m known for being SUPER impatient. To be honest, the only thing that works is distracting myself. I have quite a few hobbies, but they come in handy when I’m frustrated or impatient about something. In this case, little distractions help me stay on target with my money goals.

It’s like that old adage, a watched pot never boils…of course it does, but it seems like it takes twice as long when you’re staring at it and waiting! I agree with Mrs. Picky Pincher, getting busy with activities and daily life and trying to automate savings and finances as much as possible is most helpful.

I also do a monthly savings roundup, where I tally all of our savings and investments, subtract all of our debt, and look at the total as a percentage of our FI goal. That way I can look at the overall upward trend instead of focusing on the sometimes frustrating smaller ups and downs.
