Many people try to live by the motto of ‘live without regret’ but it is almost inevitable that someone will regret at least something from their past. In some cases, that regret can make it very difficult to keep moving forward with their life. They dwell on the past and suffer the regret daily.

In order to live a life of progress and growth one must learn to forgive one’s self and look towards the future rather than be consumed by regrets of the past.

1. Places you never went 

Many people neglected opportunities to travel while they were financially and physically able. It’s time to get off your duff and see what’s out there. Even on a budget there are many fascinating and often free things to explore in your community, in your state, or across the seas. 2. Jobs you didn’t take

Consider that the job you regret not getting (or going for) might not have been right for you. If your gut instinct was to refuse the job at the time, or if too many things pointed to you not going after it the job at the time then trust that you made the best decision you could at the time. If you still have career regrets, now is the time to consider what you really want to do with your work life and find a way to get it done.

3. Money you wasted

Money regrets are often one of the biggest regrets anyone has throughout their lifetime.     I sometimes make choices based on wishful thinking or ideas that work in theory but not so well in practice.

    Not only do I often regret these, but I feel terribly ashamed of others seeing my “incompetence”.

    I am working on just seeing what is and moving on from there. Most of these choices have no effect on others and are bumps in the road rather than dead ends. I also need to remember all the successful choices I have made in my life and what I have contributed to others’ wellbeing in real ways. I need to remember all the experiences I don’t regret.

    IT’s never too late to change a regret but on some level we all just need to give ourselves a break! You’re never going to be able to create new opportunities or fix something if your outlook is negative!

    Thanks for this- I needed it…my sister has been traveling a lot while I still live at home- but it’s important for me to remember- I have still traveled a lot more than some others have and are SO fortunate for even that! Also, lately, I have realized that everyone’s path is different- and that’s ok.

    I bumped into this page because i feel like a jerk and beating myself up. Looking back at most of the mistakes I made this year and in the past. I am seriously fighting the feeling inside of me and the voices I hear in my head making me doubt my self judgement. I have been so keen on getting married and recently connected with someone I knew a bit from my past. We hooked up and talked for over a year because we live in different cities and I felt so comfortable with him or rather felt I have grown close enough with him that when he asked for us to settle down I was ecstatic and happy cos I felt I’m going to marry my friend. We were making plans to get married by end of the year only for me to start finding out he had been lying to me all the while. Lies that has caused me money and embarrased me in public. I am going to call off the wedding. Now I feel so bad about myself because this is not the first time I planned a wedding and it didnt come through. I feel like there is no respite for me. I am yet to tell him but I know deep down in my heart I cant live with lies. I dread the impending shame and heartbreak i will cause him, my parents and family. Luckily for me I am not heartbroken rather I’m glad i found out about the lies before I said I do. I wish I had given it more time and spent more time with him physically and not just brief visits and telephone calls. Do I have a chance at all. Too costly a mistake to make at my age. My God! Thanks for this article, its helping me. I might paste excerts from it around my house to help me remember that this is not the end of the world.

    I try to understand my wife but I regret I did not pay attention, I love my wife and our children so much, I am grateful I never since now betrayed our marriage, I am a responsible person. My only fault is lack of income. I want my family back, it’s painful without my family.

    This article feel like it’s talking about me, two years and half ago I was a housekeeper .luckily I managed to start nursing career and started as a ACG and immediately I stepped to look for a job as a ACG luckly I landed one in the field I worked for 10 months and felt like I am falling apart I decided to look the same job from a different company and within 4 months of a new company things became unbearable and again I moved on to another company this time for about a year again I couldn’t take it then another one to cut the long story short within this two years I caught myself in more than six companies some of them I quit completely but some I am still an employee as a PRN after all this ,my regret is how in the world could I have caught myself of jumping from one job to another?, Now I don’t have a stable job confused whether to go back to one of the companies and take a full time position or should I look another field luck enough all this company I left in good terms even the one I quit I had to provide my two weeks notice so I am not a trouble maker.

    I am so young to see this world in my own way. But upto where I saw it. I did many mistakes in my life and always regrets too much. But once my mother told me if you don’t do mistakes then how you learn lessons. So I learn mistakes are necessary for us . Every mistakes teach us something new.

    When I got admitted to the university I was made to study a course I didn’t like. I was seriously struggling to cope with studying and also the fact that I didn’t like the course and also didn’t see a future in it made me lose passion for it. Right now my results are bad, I’m supposed to graduate this year but I’m not sure I will so I’m thinking about starting afresh in another university but I don’t know how my parents are going to feel about it. The thing is I have always been determined to have a university degree so I know if I start again by studying what I want I can excel.
